The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising has hired a partner

from the law firm, Mishcon de Reya, as its new legal affairs

director.

Simon Gallant, 38, joins the IPA in April after ten years at the firm,

whose clients included Diana, Princess of Wales. He is a media and

intellectual property specialist.

He will take over the reins from Philip Circus, who is leaving the IPA

after 20 years to practise through his own consultancy (Campaign, 16

January).

Gallant will work as a legal consultant to the IPA for four days a week

on a flexible basis to ensure ’continuity of service to IPA

members’.

He will also work for Mishcon de Reya as a consultant.

He began his career studying law at the Universities of Wales and

Cambridge, before practising at firms such as Peter Carter Ruck &

Partners. He has also lectured in law at Bristol University and is an

author and speaker on media and intellectual law.

Nick Phillips, the IPA’s director general, commented: ’We’re pleased

someone of Simon’s calibre has been attracted to the job. The IPA’s

legal service has developed into one of our key member benefits and we

are keen to maintain and develop it.’
