Glenfiddich creates visible sound waves in fusion of art and science

Whisky brand Glenfiddich partnered with Caribbean vocalist Calma Carmona and the Co-Operative Orchestra Scotland in a 12 month project exploring the effects of live music on single malt.

The brand created an intepretation of the Franz Ferdinand track, Love Illumination, with a fusion of the musical heritage of both cultures. 

It mapped out the vibrations of the double bass, percussion of the orchestra and vocals in a London warehouse using precision-crafted cymatic tech that moved the whisky in time with the music.

A device called a Levitron isolated one drop of whisky between two 'ultrasonic transducers' in mid-air creating a suspended animation.
