Google hires Cory in bid to woo agencies

Google has hired Peter Cory from the RadioCentre as an agency leader, in a bid to improve its relations with media agencies.

Cory, who will start in his new role in March, is the third senior appointment in the division this year. He joins Jonathan Gillespie, the former head of radio at OPera, and Philip Miles, who was previously the group sales director at Maiden Outdoor.

They form the senior agency team along with David Raitt, who has been with Google for nearly five years. Each reports directly to Mark Howe, the UK sales director at Google.

Google has not always had a smooth relationship with the agency community, and the creation of a dedicated team, comprised mainly of individuals experienced in traditional media, is seen as an attempt to move away from this past.

Howe said: "The relationships we have with agencies are important to us, so we are continuing to invest in them. Philip, Peter and Jonathan are senior people with proven track records."
