Google mocks fanboys in Silicon Valley spot

Google poked fun at itself and the wider tech industry by opening yesterday's launch event with a comical spot from the show Silicon Valley.

Starring Kumail Nanjiani as Dinesh and Martin Starr as Gilfoyle, the skit shows the pair anxiously awaiting the Made by Google keynote.

The spot sends up Google ("I heard Larry's going to fire Sergei....out of a cannon"), the rumour mill surrounding its event and fanboys in general.

The spot kicked off Google's annual keynote where, as expected, it launched two new own-brand Pixel smartphones, the DayDream VR headset and the Google Home smart speaker, all centring on its updated AI helped, Google Assistant.
