- The consolidation of the ITV network accelerated today as Granada agreed to buy the television assets of Border Television, one of only three independent ITV companies left, from Capital Radio in a deal worth £50.5 million.

The deal is part of Capital's £146 million agreed bid take over bid of Border. Capital will retain Border's four radio stations, Sun FM and the three Century branded stations in the Midlands and the Northern England.

Capital said as soon as its bid was announced last week that it planned a quick sale of Border's TV assets. The move is part of the radio group's strategy of sticking to its core business of radio.

Capital owns radio stations including Capital FM and xFM.
