– The Guardian is to celebrate its first year on the internet with a week of themed editorial in the newspaper and on its Guardian Unlimited network of websites.

To kick-start the week, the Guardian is running exclusive extracts from the 'The New, New Thing', a book about internet pioneer Jim Clark. The extracts will run in the Guardian from January 15 to January 18.

Clark is described as 'The Guy who created Netscape and triggered the internet boom, which in turn triggered one of the most astonishing grabfests in the history of capitalism'.

The Guardian will support the initiative with a national TV, radio and banner advertising campaign. The campaign breaks on January 13. Creative is by Partners BDDH, and media buying by New PHD.

Throughout the week the Guardian will be running editorial themed on Life Online, and how the internet is changing the way we live.

On Saturday January 22, Guardian Unlimited is producing 'Life Online', a 16 page supplement inserted into the Guide. Life Online is a directory of the best sites which show how the internet can benefit your daily life, as recommended by Guardian Unlimited. It lists links and a brief description of sites ranging from Health, Family, Hobbies, Money, Travel and Shopping.
