Guinness unveils its long-awaited new screensaver on the Internet

this Thursday.

The product is taken from the current ’black and white’ TV ad campaign,

featuring a fish on a bicycle. Entitled ’a star is spawn’, it follows on

from the 1995 ’anticipation’ screensaver, based on the Guinness TV ad of

the same name.

The new screensaver, which can be downloaded from the Guinness Website,

was put together by the Ogilvy and Mather creative team, Simon Labbett

and David Gamble, and represents a considerable increase in investment

by Guinness. ’A star is spawn’ cost more than three times as much as the

’anticipation’ screensaver and is considerably more complex.

The screensaver charts the career of the cycling fish. He begins as a

tiddler catching worms, he then learns to ride a trike and is eventually

’caught during a casting session’ as he works towards his television

Labbett said: ’What makes the screensaver groundbreaking is the

complexity of the animation. We have gone to great lengths to produce

something that people will really enjoy and it will set a standard for

others working on screensavers.’
