Hachette calls time on ailing ELLEgirl

Hachette Filipacchi is set to close its teen title ELLEgirl after four years.

The publisher has confirmed it will be suspending the title after the October issue. It will undergo a one-month review period but it is unlikely that the magazine will resurface after this.

Hachette has entered into a consultation period with the ten staff on the title. They have been told they may be given jobs on different magazines.

ELLEgirl launched in 2001 as a younger sibling to Elle, Hachette's monthly fashion title. It has not experienced huge success in the teen market and did not post a January to June ABC figure.

It nearest rival, The National Magazine Company's title COSMOgirl!, has an ABC of 163,602, while ELLEgirl's last recorded figure was slightly more than half this at 90,334.
