Heekin to take charge of McCann Worldgroup

Jim Heekin is to succeed John Dooner as the chairman and chief executive of the McCann-Erickson Worldgroup. The appointment will be announced at a meeting of the Worldgroup board on 3 April.

Jim Heekin is to succeed John Dooner as the chairman and chief

executive of the McCann-Erickson Worldgroup. The appointment will be

announced at a meeting of the Worldgroup board on 3 April.



The move had been expected following Dooner’s promotion to president and

chief operating officer of the Interpublic Group last week.



In an interview with Campaign, Dooner confirmed Heekin’s promotion and

stressed the incoming chairman’s role in the expansion that has taken

McCanns from billings of dollars 7 billion to dollars 20 billion over

the past six years.



Dooner said: ’Jim has been instrumental to our success, especially with

regard to new-business expansion in the US and Europe.



’We both have the challenge of broadening something that’s already very

strong.’



Heekin, the president and chief executive officer of McCann-Erickson

Worldwide, will take over the management of McCann’s ’corridor’

companies, which were established by Dooner in 1997 and which

Interpublic believes are crucial to the network’s continuing

success.



The ’corridor’ system covers relationship, direct and online marketing

as well as healthcare and PR.



’McCann must continue to broaden and strengthen the corridors and build

up both the reality and the perception of our creative product,’ Dooner

said.



The promotion of 51-year-old Dooner last week is seen as the latest

stage in a transition that will eventually see him replacing 65-year-old

Phil Geier as the chairman and CEO of Interpublic.



Dooner will hold the chief operating officer title for nine months and

will then be appointed president and CEO, with Geier remaining as

chairman.
