HHCL & Partners has poached Saatchi & Saatchi’s planning director,

Andy Davies, as one of several senior hirings to bolster its planning

department.

Davies, who will start at HHCL on 13 March, will join two other new

recruits: Deborah Mills, who was a board planner at Ammirati Puris

Lintas, and Dave Cobban, who was a senior planner at M&C Saatchi.

All three take on the title of ’planner’ because HHCL does not have a

hierarchical planning department. The three recruits take the

department’s total headcount to 15.

So far, only Mills has been handed specific account responsibilities.

She will work on Egg and other unnamed accounts. Sid McGrath, who runs

the agency’s planning department, said the responsibilities that Davies

and Cobban will take on are still under consideration.

McGrath said the agency has offered planning jobs to two further

candidates.

He claimed the expansion was the result of new-business wins in

1999.

He said: ’We have expanded our client base and have been scouring the

industry for talent. We’ve seen more than 50 planners in all.’

Davies is leaving Saatchis for the second time. This time around he was

with the agency for two-and-a-half years, having previously worked for

Hal Riney in San Francisco.

Before that he was with Saatchis in London, which he joined after

two-and-a-half years with GGT. He began his advertising career as a

planner with GGK.

Mills worked on Van den Bergh Foods and Burger King while at APL. She

previously worked for Delaney Fletcher Bozell.
