Hollinger Telegraph New Media selects Fletcher for top role

Hollinger Telegraph New Media, the new-media arm of the Telegraph Group, has appointed the former editor of The Independent on Sunday, Kim Fletcher, as editorial director.

Hollinger Telegraph New Media, the new-media arm of the Telegraph

Group, has appointed the former editor of The Independent on Sunday, Kim

Fletcher, as editorial director.

His appointment comes as HTNM outlined details of a multi-million pound

redevelopment of the Electronic Telegraph website, telegraph.co.uk.

Changes to the website include the introduction of a number of

e-commerce-focused channels which will draw on the traditional strengths

of The Telegraph and will include travel, motoring, property and

jobs.

Fletcher becomes the most senior national newspaper journalist to move

into new media. He will oversee all HTNM editorial activity, including

the websites that the group owns. Among them are the Electronic

Telegraph, the UK-focused search engine UKMax.com, and sites in which

HTNM has a stake, such as handbag.com, which is a joint venture with

Boots.

Hugo Drayton, the man-aging director of HTNM, said: ’We needed someone

who has edited a national newspaper so that The Telegraph can take its

values online.’

Fletcher, a former deputy editor of The Sunday Telegraph, left The

Independent on Sunday last July when the television executive Janet

Street-Porter became editor. His arrival coincides with the departure of

Danny Meadows-Klue, the general manager of the Electronic Telegraph.

Fletcher explained: ’Too many websites are missing the point. People

will come to our website because of the original material they are going

to find there. No-one is better equipped than the team at The Telegraph

to supply that.’

What better way to kick off Campaign's relaunch than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
