Hollinger Telegraph New Media, the new-media arm of the Telegraph
Group, has appointed the former editor of The Independent on Sunday, Kim
Fletcher, as editorial director.
His appointment comes as HTNM outlined details of a multi-million pound
redevelopment of the Electronic Telegraph website, telegraph.co.uk.
Changes to the website include the introduction of a number of
e-commerce-focused channels which will draw on the traditional strengths
of The Telegraph and will include travel, motoring, property and

into new media. He will oversee all HTNM editorial activity, including
the websites that the group owns. Among them are the Electronic
Telegraph, the UK-focused search engine UKMax.com, and sites in which
HTNM has a stake, such as handbag.com, which is a joint venture with
Hugo Drayton, the man-aging director of HTNM, said: ’We needed someone
who has edited a national newspaper so that The Telegraph can take its
Fletcher, a former deputy editor of The Sunday Telegraph, left The
Independent on Sunday last July when the television executive Janet
Street-Porter became editor. His arrival coincides with the departure of
Danny Meadows-Klue, the general manager of the Electronic Telegraph.
Fletcher explained: ’Too many websites are missing the point. People
will come to our website because of the original material they are going
to find there. No-one is better equipped than the team at The Telegraph
to supply that.’
