Hotline: WPP declines to respond to newspaper report

WPP has declined to respond to a national newspaper report about its sophisticated tax avoidance schemes that are claimed to have shaved millions of pounds off its UK tax bill.

The Guardian alleged that the schemes - all perfectly legal - meant that a large proportion of the group's tax payments went to other countries. A WPP spokesman said it never discussed its tax affairs in public but had an "open relationship" with the UK tax authorities.
