Grant Duncan, the former managing director of GGT and more recently
the chief operating officer of TBWA GGT Simons Palmer, is to be the
managing director of TBWA International. Duncan has spent the past few
months integrating TBWA Simons Palmer and GGT following the merger of
the two agencies. He will now look at expanding TBWA’s international
Marston, Thompson & Evershed has appointed Walsh Trott Chick Smith to
its pounds 1.5 million Marston’s Pedigree bitter account following a
competitive pitch against Lansdown Conquest and Fallon McElligott.
Marston’s was forced to look for a new agency after the merger of its
incumbent, TBWA Simons Palmer, with GGT threw up a conflict with John
McCann-Erickson in Scotland is on the brink of finalising a deal with
Williams Atkinson Mills, the six-year-old Edinburgh agency that went
into voluntary liquidation earlier this week. WAM is expected to provide
the senior management team at the new agency, which will be called WAM
Steve Mills, the managing director of WAM, and Will Atkinson, the
agency’s creative director, will retain the same titles in the new set-
Visa has eliminated Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO
from the shortlist for its pounds 25 million pan-European creative
account. The incumbent, Saatchi & Saatchi, and J. Walter Thompson are
still on the list. BBH and AMV remain on the Barclaycard list.
Zenith Media has withdrawn from the pounds 60 million Diageo media
planning and buying review. The agency’s Carlsberg-Tetley business is a
conflict with Diageo’s Guinness account. The pitch is now down to just
two agencies, Carat and MindShare.
It is understood that the Audit Bureau of Circulations is investigating
the Daily Mail’s circulation figures following a complaint from another
newspaper group on sales practice. Simon Devitt, chief executive of the
ABC, said: ’We are looking into a matter but we cannot comment on it at
this time.’ ABC figures for September are due for release on Friday.
Emap On Air has taken on a new account director, Patrick Taylor, to work
alongside its other two account heads, Karen Stacey and David Hipkiss.
Taylor will join from the National Magazine Company, where he was
regional account director, once contractual arrangements have been made.
The appointment completes the team following Sarah Jane O’Malley’s move
to Emap’s operation in the North.
Film Four, the Channel 4 subscription movie channel due to launch on 1
November, has announced that it will be available for pounds 5.99 a
month and will broadcast 86 movies in the first month, with 12 hours of
films a day being screened from 6pm to 6am.
Anthony Simonds-Gooding, the former chairman of Ammariti Puris Lintas,
is to become the chairman of Clark & Taylor. He has been a non-executive
director for the past two years.
BDH in Manchester is adopting the identity of its immediate parent
company, the Omnicom-owned TBWA, by changing its name to BDH TBWA. The
agency insists that this is not a prelude to dropping the BDH tag, and
its new logo shows the letters TBWA in grey with BDH written in
Grey Integrated has picked up the account for Mates condoms following
the arrival of Stuart Leach and Andy Ray at the agency (Campaign, last
week). The client has a long-standing relationship with Leach and Ray,
first appointing Knight Leach Delaney in 1995, then moving its business
to Ray Leach EMO when the pair left to set up the agency.
