Howell Henry takes on senior creative pair from Saatchis

Howell Henry Chaldecott Lury has poached Jo Tanner and John Messum, the Saatchi and Saatchi copy-writer and art director, as a senior creative team.

Howell Henry Chaldecott Lury has poached Jo Tanner and John Messum,

the Saatchi and Saatchi copy-writer and art director, as a senior

creative team.



The high-profile hiring is a break with tradition for Howell Henry,

which usually promotes creative talent from within. Axel Chaldecott,

Howell Henry’s creative director, said: ’We are very excited about this

new hiring. It’s not often that we hire experienced creatives from a

competitive culture - normally we home-grow our own. Jo and John have

gained a maturity but are still prepared to break the rules.’



Tanner and Messum decided to team up last month after Tanner split with

Viv Walsh, his partner of six years.



Tanner said: ’Culturally, Howell Henry is the antithesis of

Saatchis.



That’s difficult to resist if you are looking for a change. It has a

radical attitude to advertising that has produced arguably some of the

best campaigns in the last ten years.’



Messum added: ’Whatever you think about Howell Henry’s work, you have to

have an opinion. It doesn’t produce wallpaper.’



Tanner, 34, hit the headlines last year with his small-scale work for

for the fashion magazine, Don’t Tell It, and the Great Frog jewellery

store. He switched to copywriting from account management in 1990,

joining Saatchis in 1994. Messum, 31, joined Saatchis in 1988.
