ICNetwork marketing head leaves

Jill Playle, marketing director for Trinity Mirror Digital's ICNetwork, has left following a refocus of the group's strategy.

Jill Playle, marketing director for Trinity Mirror Digital's ICNetwork, has left following a refocus of the group's strategy.

Head of ICNetwork Graham Mead said Playle stepped down after it was agreed that her marketing plans did not match Trinity Mirror's. He said a replacement was being sought, but would not comment further.

The company has decided to switch from driving sales to its ISP, ic24, to developing and marketing its content across consumer portals. They include sites such as icShowbiz, regional portals such as icBirmingham and the soon-to-launch icChoice, icSport and icTravel.

The current marketing campaign will run until the end of February.

Mead said: "The ICNetwork has gone through a process of evolution. What we were doing last year was developing the technology platform and preparing the regional sites. Now we need to market that content. It is a shift in focus from selling the ISP to getting people to come to our sites."

Trinity Mirror is putting £150m into new media projects in the next three years, creating 16 regional portals and specialist consumer sites.

In its first half results for 2000, Trinity's digital operations posted losses of £12.4m, with revenues of £2m.
