Ilva seeks media agency for launch

The Danish retailer Ilva is searching for a media buying agency ahead of its UK launch next spring.

The company is expected to spend more than £5 million for the first store launch.

Ilva will open three stores in Manchester, Gateshead and Thurrock. Much of the media will focus on local activity, starting in the South-East.

Earlier this year, Ilva appointed Isobel as its creative agency and Experience Communications for strategy and communications planning.

Ilva, the second-largest household retailer in Denmark, was recently bought by a team headed by the former Habitat and B&Q executive Martin Toogood.

Toogood, the chairman and chief executive, plans to launch 19 stores in the UK in the next ten years, as it prepares to take on Ikea.

Ilva has already purchased two large out-of-town Marks & Spencer stores in Gateshead and Thurrock and is building a new store on a site in Manchester. In addition, it is considering launches in Cardiff, Leeds, Reading and Glasgow.
