IPC’s central sales unit opens with pounds 1.5m wins

IPC’s central sales unit has won its first business with a pounds 1 million deal through MindShare for Kimberley Clark and Radio Rentals.

Rentals.



The unit has also won pounds 500,000 of extended business in the food

sector.



The deals represent completely new revenue for IPC.



The team is nearly fully staffed following the recruitment of four account

managers. At least one further account manager, for the fashion sector, is

urgently being sought; and a business development manager, working across

all sectors, will be added before Christmas.



Jo McFarlane has been appointed account manager for the food sector.



She previously held the same position for confectionery and snacks on Emap

Elan’s youth titles.



Jon Steel joins as account manager for household stores from Redwood where

he worked on Sky TV Guide.



Lara Anderson, formerly group ad manager at Premier Magazines, becomes

account manager for cosmetics. Amy Cosslett, who is IPC Southbank’s

salesperson of the year, joins as account manager for pharmaceuticals.



Another addition to central sales is Paul Parrish, formerly ad manager at

Southbank’s home interest group, who has been made international ad sales

director. He is recruiting a sales team that will eventually separate from

the central unit.



The central sales unit was launched in October with sole account

responsibility for IPC’s 12 biggest clients and authority to broker group

deals across the entire magazine and online portfolio. Karl Marsden heads

the unit and the other senior appointments are Niall Clarkson and Annmaria

Brash as sales managers. Marsden reports to Connect ad director Simon

Hills but group ad director Georgina Crace, inventor of the unit, has said

she intends to stay very close to central sales.
