- The ITC is initiating a review of its advertising rules with a reassessment of all current limitations in an effort to modernise its regulatory approach.
The review is part of a consultation paper launched today in response to the rapidly changing television environment.
The first consultation will focus on rules which apply a ban to certain types of products or services being advertised on television.
The review will test whether there is a continuing need for such bans when similar restrictions do not apply in other media.
Of 29 prohibitions being reviewed, some 16 are being recommended for removal. Another eight are proposed for amendment.
