ITV buys NTL's share in rolling news station ITV News

LONDON - ITV has bought NTL Europe's 35% stake in the ITV News Channel, giving it outright ownership of the rolling news station.

The 24-hour digital news channel experienced its third successive yearly increase in audience last year. An average of 2.4m viewers sample the channel each week.

Mick Desmond, the chief executive ITV Broadcasting, said: "This is another step forward for ITV's family of channels. ITV1 is strongly leading the way, ITV2 is the fastest growing UK channel and now our 24-hour ITV News Channel is reaping the benefits of cross-promotion and access to high-quality resources."
