- ITV executives have clashed with MPs as they try to advance their plans to scrap the network's flagship news programme News at Ten.

MPs sitting on the culture, media and sport select committee have accused ITV of putting commercial revenue ahead of the needs of viewers. Gerald Kaufman, chairman of the committee, blasted Richard Eyre, ITV's chief executive, claiming he had failed to show any evidence that viewers would benefit from the scrapping of the programme.

ITV wants to replace News at Ten with a 6:30pm news show and an 11pm bulletin. It is waiting for approval from the Independent Television Commission, which is consulting the public and will make a decision on 19 November.
