- ITV is giving heavy billing to sport in its spring and summer line-up, with drama and documentaries bringing up the rear.

The network will carry the English FA Cup Final, the UEFA Champions League, and coverage of World Cup '98 and Formula One Grand Prix motor racing.

In support of ITV's sporting summer comes a package of mostly football related factual and entertainment programming, including 'The Rock 'n' Goal Years', 'A Year in the Life of the FA Cup' and a celebration of sports commentaries in 'What am I saying?'.

As announced last year, ITV has poached Frank Skinner and David Baddiel's cult football show, Fantasy Football League, from BBC2. It will run the show in the guise of Fantasy World Cup throughout this summer's tournament.

On the drama front, ITV is introducing a series of one-off films, such as 'Coming Home', a 1930s period piece starring Joanna Lumley, and 'Oktober', a drugs world story starring Stephen Tompkinson.

A new American show also arrives to bolster the schedules in the form of 'The Visitor', a sci fi mini series from the makers of Independence Day.

Returning from last year are the likes of 'Noah's Ark' and 'the Vanishing Point'. New PD James and Ruth Rendell stories are also lined up.

ITV will also push a number of documentaries, including Chippendales - A Secret History, which promises to uncover the sinister story behind the 'kings of the G-string'.
