Janes, who moved to the Far East 18 months ago to run Initiative Media Thailand, is launching a marketing and business development agency specialising in helping agencies generate new business.
As the general manager of Initiative in Bangkok, Janes oversaw clients including Unilever and Johnson & Johnson. He said: "I'd done what needs to be done in Bangkok and, as much as things can in Thailand at the moment, things are going in the right direction."
Janes joined Western in 1999 from Carat where he was the new-business director for four years. While in Thailand, he helped Initiative defend a review of its Unilever business. He also ran the Johnson & Johnson account across six countries in the Far East.
Before working at agencies Janes was employed in magazine and newspaper publishing at IPC, VNU and The Mail on Sunday.
He said: "With the climate at the moment in the marketing and services sector, the development of both current and prospective clients is critical. It is more important than ever to establish what's unique about an agency and communicate its benefits to advertisers."
