Jason Smith teams up with Brave Films to increase UK role

The Brave Film Company has hired the pop promo and commercials director Jason Smith as he attempts to boost his presence in the UK market.

Smith, who was represented by the Artists Company in the UK until January 2002, has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 2000, where he is a partner in the production company Bob Industries.

Working with Saatchi & Saatchi, Smith directed "floorboards", "cubist" and "crossbar for COI Communications' Army campaign. He has also directed ads for Sony PlayStation, Cravendale, Nike and Coca-Cola. He has shot videos for Jamiroquai, and is currently working with the Appleton sisters.

Smith said: "I chose Brave because I can create my own identity there, and it's a small, strong and friendly company."

Smith started as a director's assistant in the late 80s, and progressed to making a short film in 1991, which was bought by MTV and run throughout the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He moved to Produktion in 1996, where he stayed until 1998, then switched to Spectre for two years before moving to the US.

Brave's joint managing director, Michelle Stapleton, said: "Jason is a serious player and everyone at Brave is absolutely delighted on his decision to join. His reel is outstanding and we are looking forward to adding to this."
