The return to Earth of US astronaut Scott Kelly after a record-breaking 340 days in space provided car brand Lexus with an opportunity to play up the safety features of its RX model.

Kelly’s landing in Kazakhstan on Tuesday night was live-streamed on Time.com, which has been following Kelly with a documentary series, sponsored by Lexus and called ‘A Year In Space’.

A custom spot was created as an introduction to the livestream, featuring footage from space homecomings throughout history and showing a little girl in an astronaut’s suit returning home in the back of a Lexus RX.

The ad bills the car as ‘the official luxury crossover of getting home safe’ and the voiceover states: "While others keep our astronauts safe, we’ll help take care of our future astronauts."
