Between the Lines: Loss of Soutar will hurt IPC

After six years with IPC, its group editorial director, Mike Soutar, is leaving (page 2). Soutar, who before joining IPC edited Emap's FHM and Dennis' Maxim US, must serve a period of gardening leave.

Drawing upon his inside knowledge of the UK's top two publishers and expertise in the magazine launch process, he is launching his own venture.

Given the cold tone of IPC's statement on his departure, it seems that IPC is not too pleased at his decision.

Whatever happens, his leaving IPC is a blow to the publisher - few in the business have Soutar's record of launch success across different markets.
