BDDP GGT launches two commercials for Cadbury’s Wispa on 1 February
featuring the wordy chef, Loyd Grossman, and the sultry actress, Louise
Lombard, alongside Wispa’s frontman, Griff Rhys Jones.
The campaign, a continuation of the brand’s ’duo’ series, comprises two
30-second commercials and two ten-second cut-downs.
Lombard, the star of last year’s ITV series, Bodyguards, and the BBC’s
House of Elliott, teases Rhys Jones in a spot promoting Wispa Gold.
’What do you like in a woman, Griff?’ she asks. Before getting a reply,
Lombard describes what she looks for in a man. ’I like the type who’s
firm on the outside, but soft and yielding on the inside, like this
Wispa Gold bar here,’ she says. An overexcited Rhys Jones is next seen
being doused by a cold shower.
Grossman describes the delights of a Wispa in a characteristically
verbose fashion, from ’a glorious cornucopia of cocoa’ to ’a runaway
juggernaut of fresh frothy chocolate careering down your throat’. The
film concludes with Grossman being pushed off stage by a giant blue
velvet boxing glove.
Both ads end with the line: ’Have you heard the latest Wispa?’
David Smith, the marketing manager for Cadbury’s countlines, said:
’These two ads combine 15 years of ’duo’ heritage with fresh and
engaging scripts.’ Wispa was last on TV in early 1997 with a campaign
featuring young and old versions of Rhys Jones and Windsor Davies.
The ads were written by Michael Burke, art directed by John Anderson and
directed by Theo Delaney through Tomboy Films. They will run on national
television until mid-March. Media planning and buying is through TMD
