M&C Saatchi fills top roles internally

M&C Saatchi is promoting from within to fill the vacant posts of

media director and planning director.

The media directorship goes to Andrew Sherman, who has been working as a

senior media planner, while the top planning job will be taken by Fiona

McGill.

Their promotions formalise what has been happening over the past six

months during which Sherman and McGill took responsibility for their

respective departments.

Both directors, who formerly worked at Saatchi and Saatchi, will report

to the M&C Saatchi’s joint managing directors, Moray MacLennan and Nick

Hurrell.

The speed with which Maurice Saatchi’s breakaway shop came into being

almost two years ago, and the efforts put into establishing it, meant

that the appointment of media and planning chiefs was a low priority for

some time.

But MacLennan said: ’Our media and planning departments are now of such

a size and the agency at a stage in its development when we need people

to take on these responsibilities formally.’

Sherman worked on the British Airways account at Charlotte Street and at

a subsequent post at Bartle Bogle Hegarty he was involved in an

unsuccessful pitch against M&C Saatchi for the airline’s business.

’Andrew is not a one-dimensional media man and, when he meets clients,

you know that what he will say is intelligent, thoroughly researched and

well thought through,’ MacLennan said. ’And he gets on well with

creative people and that’s very important for us.’

McGill also worked at Charlotte Street on BA and Procter and Gamble and

was among the early defectors to M&C Saatchi.

’She is an excellent strategic thinker and has the ability to

communicate her thinking,’ MacLennan said. ’Her personal skills also

mean she will be able to get the best out of her department.’
