M&C Saatchi may set up a public affairs consultancy to be headed by

Steve Hilton, the Conservative Party’s senior account man in the run-up

to the general election.

With the party set to split with the agency in the wake of its election

defeat, it is likely Hilton will be put in charge of a newly created

offshoot.

Reports earlier this week stating Hilton was leaving to launch a

start-up were denied by the agency.

’It is possible that we might set Steve up in a public affairs

consultancy,’ David Kershaw, one of the agency’s founding partners,

said.

He added: ’At the moment the plan has not got beyond the thinking stage

and any launch may still be some months away.’

Hilton, who is understood to have parliamentary ambitions, is a former

Conservative Research Department assistant who worked on the Tories’

1992 and 1997 election campaigns.
