Grey is about to suffer another high-level defection with the

departure of Matthew Clark, the agency’s commercial director.

The former finance chief of Mellors Reay & Partners was a major

behind-the-scenes player in the merger this year with its Grey parent.

He is understood to have indicated his intention to leave once his

current projects are finished.

Clark, 32, who was unavailable for comment, is thought to have decided

to leave because of uncertainty about his future role and Grey’s failure

to find him a satisfactory alternative job within the network.

Clark’s exit deals another blow to the morale of former Mellors Reay

staffers after Grey’s split with their former chief executive, Carol

Reay (Campaign, last week).

Grey is now believed to be looking to bolster its management from

outside the group although rumours linking Richard Pinder, Ogilvy &

Mather’s managing director, with his former agency have been denied by

both parties.
