- Billy Mawhinney, the creative director on the £32 million Citroen business at Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper, has quit to become creative director of Faulds Advertising in Edinburgh.
Faulds has been looking to fill the post since Jim Downie, now a senior writer at the agency, stood down from the top job last autumn.
Mawhinney, who will move up to Edinburgh with his family, said: "I have been much more nomadic than I'd like in recent years. I want to settle down."
He was at Euro RSCG for less than a year and in the previous ten years he worked at four other agencies -- Bartle Bogle Hegarty, J Walter Thompson, Ammirati Puris Lintas and Ogilvy & Mather.
At JWT and APL, Mawhinney was joint creative director with his then partner, Nick Welch. Mawhinney admitted: "I am better equipped to be a creative director than I was before. I want the closeness of a smaller agency. At Faulds I will need to galvanise the creative department and get their trust."
"This is a unique opportunity in advertising" Mawhinney added, "Faulds is an independent, financially sound agency. It has suffered from the fact that Jim Downie didn't want to take the helm as much as the agency needed. But there is nothing wrong there that a couple of business wins and a couple of great ads couldn't fix."
Christine Tulloch, joint marketing director at Faulds, said: "The appointment shows our commitment to the future. We want to be a UK advertising agency rather than just a Scottish one -- we want to be in the top ten."
