McCann axes European managers

Three senior figures from the McCann-Erickson Worldgroup have been made redundant following a cost-cutting exercise resulting in the abolition of key European roles.

Universal McCann's executive vice-president and regional director, Brian Jacobs, and the McCann-Erickson chief strategic planning officer, Paul Twivy, have left their respective agencies and will not be directly replaced.

Jacobs' position will now be scrapped and the remit of the UK and Ireland chairman, Chris Shaw, will be expanded to include running Universal McCann's EMEA office.

Twivy, who had responsibility both for UK and regional planning, will be succeeded by a new planning director for the London office. The candidate will be announced within the next month.

Mike Court, a creative partner with specific responsibility for international accounts, was also made redundant.

In addition, McCann-Erickson's chief creative for Europe, Oran Frank, is to return to his native Israel, to take the role of chief executive at his old agency, Kesher Barel. He will not be replaced. McCann London's executive creative director, Luke White, will assume responsibility for EMEA's creative output.

McCann-Erickson Worldgroup's regional director and chairman, Ben Langdon, said: "We wanted to reduce costs, and, unfortunately, the first overheads to go were global or regional ones - people not actually running offices."

The move follows last week's decision by McCann Relationship Marketing to do without the services of its executive creative director, Trevor Pettit.

The McCann-Erickson creative pair, Jason King and Simon Tuke, have also been made redundant.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off Campaign's relaunch than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
