McCann-Erickson to handle Mothercare above-the-line work

McCann-Erickson has picked up a project from Mothercare and is

strongly placed to take on the company's entire above-the-line

business.

Mothercare has been without an agency since Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters

resigned the pounds 3 million Mothercare.com account in November last

year. The agency parted with the off line Mothercare account shortly

after the resignation was announced.

It is not yet clear what part of the Mothercare business McCann's brief

will cover. Media is expected to be unaffected by the decision,

remaining with Walker Media.

Alison Heeks, the marketing manager at Mothercare, confirmed the

appointment, saying: "At the moment we're not looking for a full-service

agency but we have been working with McCann on an ad hoc basis."

Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters won the Mothercare.com account in July last

year and created a national press and poster campaign to support the

website's launch in September.

Mothercare.com, the online retail site, offers e-commerce, a gift

ordering service, chat rooms and information on planning meals and

parties.

It is designed to target parents with young children from pre-conception

to pre-school.

No-one from McCann was available for comment as Campaign went to press.
