McCann-Erickson hires Chris Blazye

McCann-Erickson has continued the shake-up of its planning department with the appointment of Chris Blazye as a senior planner.

Blazye has been hired to add strength to McCann's strategic offering, with specific focus on its Nescafe account. The move follows the recent hiring of Red Cell's Julian Saunders as executive planning director and the promotion of Andrew Serednyj and Cathy Samson as joint planning directors.

Two years ago Blazye was a founding partner of the start-up Malcolm Moore Deakin Blazye. He left a year ago to launch the strategic brand consultancy Blazye Pearce with fellow planner Jo Pearce. His career has also included spells at TBWA as the deputy planning director and at Delaney Fletcher Bozell as the planning director.

Blazye said: "We set up Blazye Pearce to take on a specific bit of business and we finished the project. We did what we wanted to do, but it's a hard world out there for consultancies at the moment.

"But this is a pretty good move for me as McCann has a grown-up planning department with a wealth of experience. Any large account will bring its own problems and excitements with it, but it will be nice to have another big brand like Nescafe under my belt."

Saunders said: "We're delighted to attract a planning talent like Chris to the agency. These are tough times for many clients, which places a premium on good thinking and creativity. A strong planning offer positions the agency well for the future."
