McGarrigan to run ad sales at Open

Open, the interactive TV service, has hired its first head of

advertising sales.



Helen McGarrigan, who is currently sales controller at Carlton Screen

Advertising, will join Open next month and take charge of a newly formed

department.



Nick Bryant, sales director of Open, is splitting his team into two

units: advertising - which McGarrigan will front - and content

sales.



Michael Smith, Open’s sales manager, will run the content sales

division.



McGarrigan leaves Carlton Screen after two years at the company. Before

that she was agency sales controller at Granada Mediasales.



At Open, McGarrigan will report to Bryant. She will be responsible for

generating revenue through banner advertising, interactive advertising,

sponsorship propositions and ’splash screen’ ads. The last category

comprises ads that appear at the top of viewers’ TV screens and on

Open’s content menu. McGarrigan will target a wide portfolio of

advertisers.



Meanwhile, Smith will seek retailers - primarily fashion brands - to

provide content on Open.



Open is available to all British Sky Broadcasting subscribers via a

set-top box. Bryant confirmed that the interactive service now reaches

almost three-and-a-half million UK homes.



He commented: ’Open has had a huge run of success in recent months and

is on course to pull in five million subscribers by the end of the

year.



This is a great opportunity for advertisers to reach their target

audiences and both McGarrigan and Smith will be instrumental making this

happen.’
