McGuinness takes on top TBWA role

TBWA/London partner Andrew McGuinness has been appointed to the

vacant position of managing director, completing the management

restructure that followed the departure of Simon Clemmow and Johnny

McGuinness will report to the newly appointed chief executive Garry

Lace, who replaced Clemmow following the latter's breakaway with Hornby

earlier this month. McGuinness will hold the title alone, breaking with

the agency's system of appointing joint managing directors.

The appointment of Mc-Guinness comes on the heels of TBWA poaching Miles

Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy's planning director, Neil Dawson, to fill the

role of executive planning director. Dawson will form part of a senior

management trio alongside Lace and chairman Trevor Beattie.

"This is a great chance to have a crack at one of the best jobs in

London," McGuinness said. "My task is to free Garry up from the

day-to-day running of the agency so he can concentrate with Trevor and

Neil on keeping TBWA at the top of its game."

McGuinness started out as a graduate trainee at J. Walter Thompson in

London before spending two years as a group account director at M&C

Saatchi in Sydney. He returned to London with TBWA in February 2000.

"Since coming to the agency, Andrew's made a fantastic contribution,"

Lace said. "This is a promotion that is richly deserved and I'm looking

forward to working with him as part of my management team."
