Anna Griffiths chooses Channel 4’s launch of its digital channel, FilmFour, through an evening of stellar films on its terrestrial channel: ’It was a brilliant ploy. Its run of movies from 7.15pm, kicking off with the lovely Johnny Depp in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?, followed by the brilliant thriller, the Usual Suspects, and finished off with Peter Greenaway’s erotic drama, the Pillow Book, gave me a very happy pair of square eyes. If that’s going to be the diet of movies every night on FilmFour, I’m almost tempted to shell out the cash. Almost.’
