The Newspaper Publishers Association has elected Jeremy Deedes, managing director of the Telegraph Group, as its chairman following the resignation of Doug Flynn, former managing director of News International. Deedes, who has already done one stint as chairman - between March and November 1998 - will serve until March 2000. Flynn resigned following his appointment as chief executive of the Aegis Group.

The Newspaper Publishers Association has elected Jeremy Deedes,

Matthew Pitt, the joint media director of Ammirati Puris Lintas, has

left the company following the loss of the agency’s Rover account. Pitt

said that he had been planning a change of direction and given the

cutbacks after the Rover loss decided that the time was right to go.



ONdigital has confirmed that it has now signed up 411,000 subscribers,

with a 66 per cent rise in subscriptions between June and the end of

September. The service also hopes to have its interactive TV division

operational next year.



The Media Edge has appointed Andrew McLean as executive vice-president,

client services director. McLean is currently executive director,

advertising and media at the Walt Disney Company Europe and is a former

media executive at MediaVest. At the Media Edge he will be responsible

for developing key global accounts.



A new advertising medium launches this month offering ad space on

information maps in NCP town and city centre car parks. The initiative,

a joint venture between MMC Media and NCP, is claiming a potential

audience of 64 million customers.



Feng Shui for Modern Living has undergone a major redesign following the

appointment earlier this year of a new art director, Graeme White. The

magazine features bolder pictures, new fonts, more pages and separate

sections for UK and foreign updates. The magazine was launched 18 months

ago and has a circulation of 53,257 (Source: ABC six months to

June).



Maiden Outdoor is beefing up its marketing department in the wake of

this month’s poor financial results. The outdoor contractor has promoted

Juan Perez to the post of marketing manager and is set to hire two more

people to join the marketing department.



Total Media has appointed Melissa Donnelly, a conference organiser who

previously worked at Access Conferences, as marketing manager with a

brief to develop new business and market the agency.



MediaCom TMB has promoted Karen Blackett and Jason Theodore to the

board. Both Blackett, who heads the Audi business, and Theodore, who

runs SmithKline Beecham, will now take on extra client and corporate

responsibilities as part of their promotion.



The International Herald Tribune has appointed Jonathan Kenny as

advertising director for its Asia Pacific region following the promotion

of Andrew Thomas to global client director. Kenny was previously

publisher of the Media & Marketing stable of magazines in Asia.



Following the takeover of Wagadon by Emap Metro, two new appointments

have been made at The Face and Arena. Steve Beale, editor of

Sleazenation magazine, has been appointed editor-at-large of The Face

and Arena and Katie Grand has joined The Face as fashion director. Grand

has acted as fashion director of Dazed & Confused.



The technology magazine, AQ, is relaunching this month in a new format

as it looks to reposition itself within the market as a title that deals

with both technology and lifestyle culture. It will be aimed at an

upmarket, international audience aged 25-40.



GWR is claiming the biggest-ever radio advertising deal in its link-up

with Coldseal Windows. With a ratecard value of pounds 6 million, the

deal runs until 31 December 2000 and doubles Coldseal’s current radio

spend.
