Media: Zeitgeist - Eternal Sunshine features Jim Carrey in control of his limbs but not his memory

Yes, we know, it stars Jim Carrey. But get a grip on that sneer. This is Jim Carrey, the grown-up (well, sort of) and accomplished comic actor in full control of his limbs and facial contortions. Then consider the bits for which no apology whatsoever is necessary.

It is written by Charlie Kaufman, a one-off writing talent best known for creating Being John Malkovich; and it is directed by Michel Gondry, a director well-known in the advertising industry for spots for Nike.

It's about two people who have had all memories of a painfully destructive love affair zapped by a new erasure technique - but who find each other strangely familiar when they meet after the treatment. Ever had that deja vu feeling? In a dismal year for Hollywood, this ambitious and haunting comedy stands out like a beacon.

The film: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Starring: Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet

Opens: 30 April
