Orange has handed its global media business to Mediapolis following a four-way pitch against Universal McCann, MediaCom TMB and BJK&E Media.
The appointment means that Mediapolis, the incumbent on Orange's £35 million UK media account, will handle Orange's planned global expansion. The mobile phone operator wants to have a presence in 50 markets around the world by 2003.
Orange currently spends around £20 million in six markets outside the UK, but the roll-out could add as much as £150 million to the company's global billings. The account will be run out of Mediapolis' UK office.
