MediaVest loses its pounds 22m account with Barclays for media

MediaVest, the incumbent on the pounds 22 million Barclays Bank

media account, has been knocked off the shortlist leaving OMD UK and

Starcom Motive to battle for the business.

MediaVest faced pitching against its sister agency Starcom Motive. Jim

Marshall, the chief executive of MediaVest, said the agency was never

asked to pitch as Starcom MediaVest Group.

Starcom Motive will now pitch against OMD for the business. A result is

expected in early July.

MediaVest has held the Barclays account for five years and saw off a

media review early last year before it was abandoned for running too

close to the crucial TV negotiating season.

The pitch, however, was reactivated in February. It is being handled by

the AAR and does not include the Barclaycard and Woolwich brands. A

spokesman for Barclays said last month that the "media review was going

on as part of a wider strategic review".

The media review does not affect its creative account, held by Leagas

Delaney, responsible for the "big" advertising campaign.
