The appointment marks the first time that Edinburgh has awarded a banner contract to one company - previously it was done on an ad hoc basis. It is also the first major city banner contract to come up for pitch since Mega Profile was wound up early this summer.
The three- to five-year deal gives Megaposter exclusive rights to install giant poster ads on buildings undergoing refurbishment under Edinburgh council's statutory notice system. The company expects to erect a dozen of its giant poster sites a year.
Ian Bohn, the sales and marketing director of Megaposter, said: "We prefer to work together with planners and our experience in major cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh illustrates the benefit of consultation leading to adopted policy guidelines."
