Mellors Reay hires director to expand business in Europe

Mellors Reay and Partners has signed the former Saatchi and Saatchi

senior executive, Mike Parsons, as its first non-executive director in a

prelude to possible acquisitions and links with agencies in continental

Europe.

Carol Reay, the agency’s chief executive, said this week that she was in

talks with three companies and would be drawing on Parsons’ experience

to see the expansion plans through.

Parsons, who was involved in agency acquisitions during his period as

the chief executive of Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising International,

will help Mellors Reay extend its presence into the design sector and

advise on European ventures.

A former managing director of KHBB, now K Advertising, Parsons went on

to found Barchester Healthcare, which claims to be the UK’s largest

independent supplier of upmarket retirement homes and is a Mellors Reay

client.

Reay said: ’Developing our business in other ways rather than through

organic growth is new to us and Mike will bring us his business

brain.’

Parsons will join the agency’s six executive directors at their next

board meeting.

’We hope, eventually, to have more than one non-executive director,’

Reay said. ’It’s common for other companies to allow non-executives to

bring their specialist knowledge into the boardroom, but agencies have

been slow to take up the idea.’

Parsons said: ’The agency has some interesting plans afoot but I don’t

think it has anybody who can facilitate them. Yet its combination of

successful financial management and high creativity is unusual and I’m

sure I can help it open doors to like-minded agencies in Europe.’

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
