Mellors Reay seeks managing director as Richards leaves

Mellors Reay & Partners has parted company with Paul Richards, the

managing director it hired two years ago to take charge of its

day-to-day operations.

Richards cleared his desk and quit the agency on Monday after a meeting

with Carol Reay, the chief executive, and Tim Mellors, the chairman and

creative director. He has no job to go to and is understood to be

negotiating a financial settlement.

Mellors commented: ’Paul is an honest hard worker and we wish him the

best for the future.’

Richards said: ’I’ve enjoyed Mellors Reay enormously but have done all I

can there and it’s important to recognise when it’s time to move

on.’

Richards joined in the summer of 1996 from Leagas Shafron Davis, where

he was client services director, with a brief to take control of the

internal organisation of the agency and allow Reay and Mellors to build

business and develop its profile.

But it is believed the professional relationship between Richards and

Mellors failed to flourish.

Reay said the agency had shortlisted an internal and an external

candidate for Richards’ job and hoped to make an appointment within the

next two weeks.
