Fashion Cafe, the designer restaurant chain fronted by the

supermodels, Naomi Campbell, Elle MacPherson and Claudia Schiffer, is

believed to have appointed Mellors Reay & Partners to handle its UK

advertising.

Tim Mellors, the agency’s chairman and creative director, would not

comment but industry sources say the deal is close to completion.

The fashioned-themed international chain’s first UK restaurant was

opened in London in August 1996 by Christy Turlington as a rival to

Planet Hollywood.

The restaurants serve the models’ favourite dishes and have interiors

decorated with fashion memorabilia collected from around the world.

Last September, Turlington cut loose from her catwalk colleagues who had

given their names to the venture, which opened its first outlet at New

York’s Rockefeller Centre in 1995.

More recently, the New York outlet of the chain - which also has

restaurants in New Orleans and Barcelona - has been the subject of writs

from suppliers over alleged unpaid bills. Some observers have questioned

the wisdom of building a chain of restaurants for people with modest

appetites.
