Metro has moved its head of planning, Linda Grant, to the newly created position of marketing director as it increases its recent emphasis on pushing the title to national advertisers.

Grant will work alongside the group head of trading, Gary Savage, in raising the profile of the free paper among media agencies and the advertising community.

'I am excited to be taking on the new role of marketing director,' said Grant, who moved last November from a position as the ad manager at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail.

Mike Anderson, Metro's managing director, said: 'Linda's talent and energy have contributed in no small part to the enormous success of Metro.'
