Matthew Nimmo has been appointed business development director of the Idea Works, the Bath-based design, marketing and PR consultancy. Nimmo was previously the European development director for the Business Consultants International Group. In his newly created role, Nimmo will be responsible for new business in all areas of the consultancy.

Carole Settachan has been appointed head of direct marketing planning by

the sales promotion and direct marketing consultancy, Coaxis. Settachan

joins Coaxis as an associate director from the agency, Marsden Grant,

where she was the director of planning and database marketing. Her

previous experience includes spells at Unisys, as a direct marketing

manager, and Linguaphone, as an international sales and marketing

manager.



The copywriter, Rob Young, and the art director, Carl Durban, have

joined the Norwich-based marketing communications agency, the Point.

Their portfolios include work for Royal Mail, Norwich Union, Volvo and

Cadbury’s. An English graduate from Worcestershire, 31-year-old Young

taught English before working in advertising, while 30-year-old Durban

moved straight into advertising after four years at Yarmouth Art

College.



Kinghorn-Davies Public Relations of Newcastle has recently appointed

Mark Carton as press officer. He will work with the trade press and be

responsible for technical and trade PR accounts. A graduate in business

studies from Leeds University, Carton has worked at Central Television’s

press office and as a freelance marketing consultant. For the past 2

years he has worked with Trane air-conditioning, dealing with all

aspects of press, publicity and marketing for its northern region.



Caxton Park has appointed Dee Farrell client services director. She was

previously a partner in the Bradford-based company, Highlight Marketing.

Before that she was with Advertising Principles and Murray Luckett.

Richard Newton has been appointed UK marketing director of FileNet.

Newton joins FileNet directly from Digital, where he was UK marketing

manager.



Humphrey Barclay is joining LWT as the company’s first controller of

comedy. At LWT, Barclay will work in tandem with Nigel Lythgoe,

controller of entertainment. Barclay was among the earliest recruits to

LWT, being picked by Frank Muir to be an entertainment producer in 1968

at the age of 27. In 1977, he was made head of comedy, but left six

years later to form Humphrey Barclay Productions, where he made

situation comedies, including Relative Strangers, Desmond’s and Surgical

Spirit.



Scott Ewings has joined Crown Business Communications from the

Presentation Company, where he was multimedia manager. Before his time

there, Ewings was a consultant to Greenpeace on its climate change

database and acted as a freelance designer for Peritas Multimedia.

Following a three-year diploma in graphic art and design, Ewings began

his career at the Commonwealth Institute where he was the project co-

ordinator and designer on its interactive CD-Rom. In his new post at

Crown, Ewings will be responsible to the director of production, Nicky

Havelaar, for multimedia production and co-ordination and for advising

on business strategy.



The Bedford-based catering disposables business, Terinex, has appointed

Jean Ritchie, a member of the Institute of Factory Management, as

managing director. Having trained in accountancy and costing with Texas

Instruments in Bedford, Ritchie joined the production control department

of Terinex in 1974, progressing to production planning and control

manager, then quality controller and production manager. She became a

director of Terinex in 1982 with responsibility for the Bedford

operations of the company.



The British Standards Institution has named Linda Campbell as its new

marketing director. Campbell was formerly executive director of Lloyd’s

Register Quality Assurance. Campbell holds a number of external

appointments including non-executive director of United Kingdom

Accreditation Service, non-executive director of the Prescription

Pricing Authority and is a member of the PPA Audit Committee. At LRQA,

Campbell held a number of posts including executive director, general

manager, marketing manager and commercial manager.



Image Technologies Developments has appointed Paul Smith as European

sales manager. Smith, who joins from Canon and Panasonic, was employed

as a navigation officer in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary after leaving

university and served in the Falklands before joining Canon as a colour-

laser specialist. In 1989, he joined Panasonic as colour sales and

marketing manager, after which he went to Southern Business Group as a

colour interface specialist.
