The Southampton-based Riggs Advertising and Public Relations has appointed David Fowles to head the agency. He was previously group chief executive at Hall Harrison Cowley Advertising. Before that, he was at Euro RSCG, D’Arcy Masius Benton and Bowles, McCann-Erickson and Lopex, among other agencies.

appointed David Fowles to head the agency. He was previously group chief

executive at Hall Harrison Cowley Advertising. Before that, he was at

Euro RSCG, D’Arcy Masius Benton and Bowles, McCann-Erickson and Lopex,

among other agencies.



Eagle Star has appointed Derek McLaughlan as managing director,

commercial lines. He succeeds Gerry Boyle, who has retired after 41

years’ service. McLaughlan joined Eagle Star from Royal Insurance in

1991 to become divisional director, marketing and operations, commercial

lines. He was appointed director of Eagle Star Direct in 1994.

McLaughlan’s move has resulted in the appointment of Paul Davies as

director of Eagle Star Direct. Davies arrives from Eagle Star Life,

where he has been marketing director since 1994. Steve Wigzell, 43, has

been appointed marketing director of Eagle Star. Wigzell was previously

a corporate planner at Allied Dunbar and, for the past two years, has

been director of planning and development for B. A. T.



Financial Services (UK). Paul Swinburn, 48, has been appointed director

of corporate affairs at Eagle Star. He was previously corporate

communications director.



Chris Hartley has been appointed as the director of the processing

division of Reed Exhibition Companies. Hartley, an employee of Reed

Exhibitions since 1991, has an extensive knowledge of exhibitions in the

processing division, having worked directly on the triennial exhibition,

Eurochem, the annual Environmental Technology exhibition and the new

event, Energy Resource.



The independent West London brewer, Fuller Smith and Turner, has

appointed John Roberts as marketing director. Roberts, 38, who will take

a seat on the board, brings experience from working at companies such as

Britvic, KP Foods and, most recently, Scottish Courage.



Ian Bradshaw, 27, has been appointed superstore marketing manager at

Office World, the leading stationery, office products and furniture

superstore group. Before joining the company, Bradshaw was marketing

manager at Gardena UK. His early retail experience was gained through

the J. Sainsbury management training scheme.



Helen White has been appointed by De’Longhi UK as product manager for

heating, air-conditioning and floor-care products. She joins from

Philips, where she spent more than eight years. White worked in planning

and logistics for major appliances, then on car stereos, before being

promoted to product marketing manager for televisions and then corporate

promotions manager at Philips Electronics. After Philips, she worked as

a product manager for the Healthcall Group, before joining De’Longhi at

the beginning of 1996.



The ISO Research Centre, part of the ISO Group, has appointed Peter

Haigh as managing director. He was previously sales and marketing

director at the Savoy Group of Hotels. Haigh also spent 14 years with

Marriott Hotels in various sales and marketing positions, primarily in

Europe, the Middle East and Africa.



The Royal College of Nursing has appointed Mark Flannagan as assistant

director, external affairs. Flannagan joins the RCN from the BBC, where

he was the senior press officer, corporate press relations. He worked at

the BBC from September 1993 to February 1996, and he was responsible for

the media work around Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting - an important

area of the BBC’s development - and television licensing. Before the

BBC, he was deputy director at Ash (Action on Smoking and Health).



Ed Stanislawski has been appointed as marketing manager of QMS (UK).

Stani-slawski replaces Iain Friar, who becomes colour product manager

for QMS EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Asia). Stanislawski originally

joined QMS as a systems engineer, having worked for a number of years at

Midwich Thame as a product manager.



Miller Freeman Publishers has appointed Andy Jordan as associate

publisher for the printing and packaging group of titles, which include

Printing World, Packaging Week and PrePress World. Jordan moves from

Printing World, where he was advertising manager. Graham Bond has been

appointed associate publisher of Leather and Tunnels and Tunnelling. At

Leather he was advertising manager. Richard Smith, previously acting

advertising manager at Catering, has been appointed as advertising

manager of Leather.



Motorola has appointed Mary Harrison as UK marketing communications

manager. Before joining Motorola, she was with Toshiba Information

Systems. And before that, she worked at Landmark, Exact Software,

Nixdorf Computer and Data General Computers. Her role at Motorola will

focus on developing UK marketing and communications activities.
