Kate Mackenzie has been appointed IPC Connect advertisement manager, replacing Jacquie Duckworth who recently left to join Premier Magazines. Mackenzie will share responsibility for Woman, Woman’s Own, Woman’s Weekly, Woman’s Realm and Chat with Sarah Watkins.

Magazines. Mackenzie will share responsibility for Woman, Woman’s Own,

Woman’s Weekly, Woman’s Realm and Chat with Sarah Watkins.



Both report to Connect advertisement director Janie Pilkington, who was

Mackenzie’s boss when the pair worked together at The Express.





The Independent has recruited a new group head of classified

advertising.



Mark Driscoll joins the newspaper from IML Group where he worked for

seven years, most recently as group manager. In his new role, Driscoll

will be running the education and public sector teams. He will report to

recruitment advertisement manager Jo Redfern.





Paul Kearney, managing director of the Bristol Evening Post & Press, is

to become the new chairman of the Newspaper Society’s marketing strategy

group from January 2000. Kearney succeeds Tom Stevenson from Eastern

Counties Newspapers who has been chairman for the past two years. The

marketing strategy group is a body of senior commercial figures from the

UK regional press, who initiate and steer marketing efforts and guide

the work of NS Marketing.





River Publishing has taken on Gareth Davies as head of sales and

marketing for Virgin Atlantic. Davies joins River from Aspen Marketing

Communications where he spent a year as sales and marketing manager.

River will also hire an advertisement manager and a sales executive this

week. Both will work under Davies on the Virgin account.





The Telegraph Group has appointed Mark Dixon marketing director. Dixon

is sports promotions manager at The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday

Telegraph and will officially take up his new role on 1 February. He

replaces Hugo Drayton, who was promoted to managing director of

Hollinger Telegraph New Media last year.





BSkyB has appointed Julian Eccles its director of corporate

communications. Eccles, who is currently the director of corporate

communications for the interactive TV company Open, will take up his new

role in the next few weeks. He will report to Sky’s chief executive Tony

Ball.





Romsey Publishing has brought in Patricia Hubbard as group advertisement

manager on The English Garden and Garden Ideas. Before taking up her new

role, Hubbard spent a year at IPC, where she was group advertisement

manager on Yachting Monthly and Practical Boat Owner.





TDI has appointed Hannah Skellorn marketing and communications

manager.



Skellorn moves to TDI from Saatchi & Saatchi, where she was media

manager handling the Carlsberg-Tetley and Virgin Clothing accounts. In

her new role she will report to marketing director Mike Baker.





Reed Business Information has taken on Sibel Sevket as senior display

executive on Estates Gazette. Sevket joins RBI from Quantum Publishing

where she was senior account manager on Hotel & Restaurant magazine.
