The Audit Bureau of Circulations has a new chairman. John Mayhead,
strategic marketing consultant and former Argos board member, was
appointed to the position on Wednesday. Mayhead has been chairman of the
Marketing Society, as well as a council member of the Incorporated
Society of British Advertisers and its representative on the Advertising
IDG Communications, publisher of newspapers, magazines and books on IT,
has recruited Helen Lawson as international sales manager on core
accounts. She will be selling titles including Computer World, MacWorld
and PC World. Lawson was previously deputy sales manager at Northcliffe
News-papers’ national sales house, where she worked for five years.
Eve Pollard’s Parkhill Publishing has recruited two sales staff for its
new older women’s magazine, set to launch in the spring. They are Lisa
Frost, former senior sales executive at The Express, and Charmian
Wright, who was a senior sales executive on the National Magazine
0800freedom, a new free internet service provider, has appointed Peter
Griffiths commercial manager. Griffiths moves to his new position from
Berber Events where he was managing director for two years, before which
he worked at P&O Events and the Blenheim Group.
Fish4, the internet network, has appointed Rayne Tompson publisher of
its recruitment website Fish4jobs. In her new role, Tompson will be
responsible for sales, marketing, production and finance. Before the
appointment, Tompson was development director for Internet Appointments
and sales manager for Taps.com.
Trevor Kalinowsky has joined River Publishing as a sales executive on
the Virgin Atlantic inflight media portfolio. Kalinowsky joins River
from the Ottawa-based newspaper, Capital City, where he was a marketing
representative. He has also worked at Vector Marketing as a field sales
manager. Kalinowsky was placed at River by Reilly Recruitment.
Optimedia has promoted three of its senior staff to the board of
directors. The three are Mark Jones, international media director, Phil
Nunn, head of direct and Nick Walker, group director.
The Evening Standard classified department has promoted Paul Spargo,
currently senior telephone sales executive, to a new role as field sales
executive responsible for education. Spargo will report directly to
Sharon Webber, public sector/education group head.
BBJ Media Services has promoted Piers Taylor and Stuart Newman, both
previously senior planners, to the position of associate director. In
addition, ’in recognition of the growing strategic importance of
sponsorship’, head of sponsorship Richard Brinkman has been promoted to
the agency’s management team.
