Graham Canter, Optimedia’s TV group head, has quit the agency to go travelling. Canter, who left Optimedia last Thursday, intends to spend between three months and a year travelling to Australia and the Far East. The agency has yet to confirm his replacement. Canter, who handled the SC Johnson and Woolwich accounts, plans to resume his media career on his return. Optimedia has said that if there is a suitable position available at that time, he will be welcome to apply.

TDI has hired Simon Hawkins as an account manager. Hawkins joins the

transport specialist from the Telegraph Group, where he was newspaper

agency executive. Before that he worked at the Mail on Sunday. In his

new role, Hawkins will handle the BMP and retail client accounts. He

will report to national sales director Clive Punter.





Carat has appointed David Yorath broadcast executive on its Diageo

account. Yorath joins Carat from Mediapolis, where he is currently

senior planner/buyer on the Pernod Ricard and Orange accounts. He takes

up his new position on 6 March. Diageo’s brands include Burger King,

Guinness, Haagen-Dazs and Smirnoff.





Zenith Media has recruited Andy Parr as strategic planner on its Halifax

and Muller Dairy accounts. Parr joins Zenith from Mediapolis, where he

was planner/buyer on the Our Price, Ericsson and Orange accounts. In his

new role he will report to Tap Chauhan, planning director.





Starlog, the science fiction magazine to be launched by Highbury House

subsidiary WV Publications on 30 March, has appointed Rachael Box as

advertisement manager. Paul Hishin has taken over her previous role as

advertisement manager on Computer Video. He was previously display

representative on the same title.





More Group has hired Will Ramage as a senior sales executive. Ramage

joins the outdoor specialist from the Telegraph Group, where he has

worked since 1995, most recently as an agency sales representative.

Before that he was in the Royal Navy. In his new role, Ramage will work

on the MediaCom TMB and BBJ Media Services accounts. He will report to

sales manager Sam Armour.





Media Contacts, the recruitment consultancy, has taken on Ross Nicholson

as a consultant in its specialist recruitment division, New Media

Contacts. Nicholson previously worked on a freelance basis as a business

development manager within the new-media market for companies including

Kirk Originals and PMA Creative.





Real Media UK has taken on three traffic managers. Paula Ledbury and

Glen Willis both join from Cable Advertising Sales Company, where they

were traffic managers. Michelle Sullivan moves from Trinity Mirror where

she was advertising traffic manager.





Financial website TheDeal.net has hired Michael Brown as account manager

of its affiliate marketing arm UKAffiliates.com. Brown joins the

new-media operation from VNU. He has previously worked at Haymarket

Publishing and The Mirror.
